要約, 抜粋, and 省略: summarizing, extracting, and omitting
Compare a three-line summary, a novel excerpt, and a statement that a detailed explanation will be omitted. Shortened text is not automatically a summary; identify how the original was handled.
Summarizing the main points
要約 (ようやく) means summary or summarizing. says a summary of the report was placed on the first page.
says the long explanation was summarized in three lines in a notebook. Three lines and the first page are example formats, not requirements for every summary.
Selecting a passage from the original
抜粋 (ばっすい) means an excerpt or extract. describes extracting important parts of the report.
says a novel excerpt was read aloud in class. A short selected passage differs from a newly organized summary of the whole story.
Leaving content out
says the detailed explanation will be omitted because time is short.
requests writing the building name without omitting it from the application form. Identify main-point organization, selection of original material, and omitted content separately.
Is the classroom text in 「小説の抜粋を授業で音読した。」 a summary of the entire novel?
Show the answer and why
The stated text is an excerpt from the novel. A selected original passage was read aloud; the sentence does not say the whole novel was newly summarized.
