程度: The Extent Qualifying a Noun
Compare a task small enough to finish in an hour with exercise within a manageable extent. Read how the description before 程度 qualifies the following noun.
程度 (ていど): The scale of a task
「作業は一時間で終わる程度のものだった。」 — “The task was small enough to finish in an hour.” The task is described as small enough to finish in an hour. 一時間で終わる qualifies the following もの through 程度.
This is not an elapsed-time report that the task started and finished exactly an hour later. A description of scale using time differs from measured duration.
Exercise within a manageable extent
「無理のない程度の運動を毎日続ける。」 — “I continue exercising daily at a moderate level.” Exercise is continued daily at a level that is not overtaxing. 無理のない sets an extent applying to the following 運動.
A daily frequency is given, but no fixed duration or repetition count is stated. Do not make a manageable extent a single amount of exercise for everyone.
The description before 程度 and its following noun
In the first example 程度 links a description to the scale of the task; in the second it links a description to the extent of exercise. Identify the connection to もの or 運動.
These sentences do not compare exercise types or counts of gymnastics movements. Focus on the noun qualified by the extent, separately from how すぎる attaches to express excess.
What do the descriptions before 程度 qualify in 一時間で終わる程度のもの and 無理のない程度の運動?
Show the answer and why
The approximate scale of the task and a manageable extent of exercise. Neither actual elapsed time nor one fixed exercise amount for everyone is supplied.
