Reciprocal Cooperation and Shared Work
Compare cooperation and a purpose of mutual understanding with jointly managing a garden and developing material. Read reciprocal direction and the activity performed together.
Cooperation and understanding
— “The two regions cooperate with each other to protect the river.” The example concerns cooperation between two regions. 相互に presents a reciprocal relation rather than specifying help only in one direction.
— “We held an exchange meeting to deepen mutual understanding.” An exchange event was held to deepen mutual understanding. Holding the event is separate from its intended result.
Management and development
— “I maintain a small vegetable garden jointly with a neighbor.” The garden is managed jointly with a neighbor. 共同で focuses on carrying out the management together.
— “The two companies are jointly developing a new material.” The companies are jointly developing a new material. Development in progress is not a report of a finished material announced.
Reciprocity and joint performance
相互理解 highlights the direction of understanding between parties; shared work highlights an activity done together. The meanings can overlap within one cooperative activity.
Joint management does not guarantee deeper mutual understanding or identical ownership rights. The event, garden, and development remain separate examples.
