出産 and 誕生: giving birth and coming into being

Distinguish the person giving birth from the one born, and learn figurative uses of 誕生.

The person giving birth

says that an older sister gave birth to a child.

means receiving news of a birth. Do not make the recipient the person who gave birth.

The one coming into being

誕生, read たんじょう, means birth or coming into being. says that a new life was born.

means celebrating a birth. The celebrant and the one born have separate roles.

Birth beyond people

says that a new company came into being. It figuratively describes the start of an organization.

Do not replace this with 会社が出産しました. Distinguishing who gives birth from what comes into being clarifies the two nouns' patterns.

In 姉が子どもを出産しました, who gave birth and who was born?
