Inviting people and seeking to host an event

Compare an exhibition invitation received by letter with a proposal to bring a traveling exhibition to a region. Read the invitation’s recipient and the event sought for a locality.

Inviting a person

招待 means an invitation or inviting someone. reports inviting a friend to a birthday party. The invited person and occasion are stated.

reports receiving an exhibition invitation by mail. Receiving it does not itself establish actual attendance.

Seeking to bring an event to a locality

招致 concerns attracting or seeking to host something. says a town aims to attract a fictional music festival. It does not report a completed real festival.

reports a proposal to bring a traveling exhibition to the region being raised at a meeting. The proposal does not say the exhibition has already opened.

Identify the recipient and the target

The invitation letter’s 招待 focuses on the person receiving an invitation. The traveling-exhibition proposal’s 招致 focuses on the event to be brought to a locality. The relations have different targets.

These representative examples do not limit 招待 exclusively to people or 招致 exclusively to events. Receipt of an invitation, an aim, and a proposal each retain their stated scope.

What targets do the exhibition invitation’s 招待 and the traveling-exhibition proposal’s 招致 address?

Show the answer and why

招待 connects with the person invited, while the 招致 proposal targets the traveling exhibition to be brought to the region. Separate inviting people from seeking an event without adding completed attendance or hosting.
