職業 and 職場: occupation and workplace
Distinguish an occupation from the place and environment of work.
The type of occupation
職業 (しょくぎょう) is the type of work done as an occupation. 「職業は教師です」 means that the occupation is teaching, without identifying the school.
「職業を変えたいです」 expresses a wish to change occupations. It does not report an already completed job change or workplace move.
The workplace and its environment
職場 (しょくば) is the place or environment where someone works. 「職場は駅の近くです」 locates the workplace near the station rather than identifying the occupation.
「職場の人と話しました」 means talking with someone from work. It refers to a person associated with the workplace, not a conversation with the place itself.
One can change without the other
「職業は同じですが、職場が変わりました」 means that the occupation stayed the same but the workplace changed. Someone can move workplaces while keeping the same occupation.
「職場まで三十分かかります」 means that reaching the workplace takes thirty minutes. It gives travel time, not working hours or task completion time.
Does 「職場の雰囲気が好きです」 name an occupation?
Show the answer and why
