会議 and 会話: meetings and conversations
Compare a meeting about issues with an exchange of conversation.
A gathering to discuss issues
会議 (かいぎ) is a meeting to discuss issues. 「午後に会議があります」 says that a meeting is scheduled for the afternoon. Its agenda determines what will be decided.
「会議を開きました」 means holding a meeting. It does not establish that the speaker presented or that every issue was resolved.
Exchanging words
会話 (かいわ) means conversation. 「友達との会話を楽しみました」 means enjoying a conversation with a friend. A formal agenda or conclusion is not required.
「会話が聞こえました」 means that a conversation was audible. It does not establish the listener's participation; distinguish listener from speakers.
Conversation inside and outside a meeting
「会議のあとで会話が続きました」 means that conversation continued after the meeting. The end of the meeting is not necessarily the end of the conversation.
「会議中は私語を控えてください」 asks people to refrain from private chatter during the meeting. Do not broaden it into a ban on all discussion of the agenda.
Does 「会話の練習」 necessarily mean practicing how to run a meeting?
Show the answer and why
