共感 and 賛同: empathy with hesitation and support for a proposal

Compare empathy with a character's hesitation and support for preserving a park, retaining the possibility of empathy despite different experiences.

Empathizing with hesitation or different experiences

共感 (きょうかん) means empathy. “主人公の迷いに深く共感した。” reports deeply empathizing with the main character's hesitation. 迷い is the target of empathy in this sentence.

“経験の違う相手にも共感を示すことはできる。” says that empathy can be shown even to someone with different experiences. Do not require identical experience or turn this possibility into an act already performed.

Supporting a plan and expressing agreement

賛同 (さんどう) means support or agreement. “多くの住民が公園を守る計画に賛同した。” says that many residents supported the plan to protect the park.

“提案への賛同を拍手で示した。” describes expressing agreement with a proposal by applauding. This example identifies applause as an expression of agreement; it does not make all applause agreement.

Identify what is empathized with or supported

Compare a response to hesitation or experience with a position supporting a plan or proposal. Do not make an absolute definition that excludes all other possible targets of 共感.

Empathizing with someone's hesitation does not automatically establish support for that person's proposal. These examples identify the feeling empathized with and the plan or proposal supported separately.

Does 共感 with a character's hesitation automatically mean 賛同 with their proposal?

Show the answer and why

No. The 共感 example directly describes empathy with hesitation, while the 賛同 examples describe support for a plan or proposal. Identify the targets of the feeling and the support separately.
