聞き取り: listening practice and an interview inquiry
Distinguish Japanese comprehension practice from gathering a witness’s account by the task and target, without inferring recording or verification.
Practice in understanding a language
「日本語の聞き取りを毎朝練習している。」 describes practicing Japanese listening comprehension every morning. 日本語の聞き取り names the language task being practiced.
Every morning is the timing in this example. It does not define a required time for 聞き取り or prove that the practice produced a measured improvement.
An inquiry directed at a person
「調査員が目撃者への聞き取りを行った。」 identifies the investigator as interviewing a witness. The investigator performs the task, while the witness is the person whose account is sought.
The sentence describes gathering information by hearing someone’s account. Conducting the inquiry does not itself establish a recording, verification of the account, or delivery of the investigation results.
Choose the meaning by task and target
Both uses involve listening, but their tasks differ: practicing comprehension of a language and gathering a witness’s account. Whether sound was heard or a question was asked is not the whole distinction.
Read 日本語 with 練習, and 目撃者への with 調査員. Those combinations distinguish the language exercise from an inquiry directed at a person without inventing the content of the witness’s account.
How do the tasks and targets differ in practice of 日本語の聞き取り and performance of 目撃者への聞き取り?
Show the answer and why
The first is a language exercise in understanding spoken Japanese. The second is an investigator’s inquiry into a witness’s account. Distinguish the language practiced from the person interviewed, without adding recording or verification.
