記事 and 広告: articles and promotional text

Distinguish the role of a published text from facts learned through it.

Reading and writing articles

記事 (きじ) means an article in a newspaper, magazine, or similar publication. 「旅行の記事を書きました」 means writing a travel article.

「記事には日付が書かれていました」 says the article contained a date. Context determines whether it is an event date or publication date.

Advertising

広告 (こうこく) means an advertisement promoting a product, service, or similar offering. 「新しい店の広告を見ました」 means seeing an advertisement for a new shop.

「広告を出しました」 means placing an advertisement. Whether anyone then purchased anything is separate information.

Appearance does not settle function

「記事のような広告」 describes an advertisement resembling an article. Article-like appearance does not remove its promotional purpose.

「広告で知りましたが、まだ利用していません」 says the speaker learned of it through advertising but has not used it yet. Separate awareness from use.

Does 「広告で知りました」 establish experience using the service?

Show the answer and why

No. It only identifies how the speaker learned about it.
