確認 and 点検: checking information and inspecting equipment

Compare checking meeting times with inspecting equipment, and avoid guessing availability from an inspection notice alone.

Checking accuracy or whether an action occurred

確認, read かくにん, means checking information or facts. means that the meeting time was checked.

asks someone to check whether the door was locked. The issue is whether the action was performed, rather than the key's mechanical condition.

Inspecting condition and possible faults

点検, read てんけん, means inspecting equipment or an object for problems. says that the machine was inspected before work.

says that a brake problem was discovered during inspection. An inspection does not necessarily end with a finding that everything is normal.

Overlapping procedures and separate results

says that the need for repairs will be checked after inspection. An inspection may itself include several acts of checking.

indicates that the elevator is being inspected. Check additional wording such as 利用できません to determine whether it can be used.

alone tell you that the machine had no problems?

Show the answer and why

No. It reports that an inspection was performed. A separate statement is needed to establish its result.
