Participation Requirements and Planning Premises
Compare the same ability to participate as a requirement and a premise of a plan. Also read a condition for playing a match and a request to confirm shared premises.
A participation requirement
— “Our first condition was that everyone be able to participate.” The ability of everyone to participate is set as the first condition. 条件 identifies a requirement being established.
— “We can play in the garden provided that it does not rain.” The absence of rain is the condition under which a match can be played in the garden. The sentence gives a possibility, rather than reporting a completed match.
A basis for planning and discussion
— “This plan assumes that everyone can participate.” The same ability of everyone to participate is a premise of the plan. It is the proposition on which the plan starts.
— “Let's confirm our shared premises before beginning the discussion.” This is a request to confirm shared premises before beginning discussion. It does not report that the discussion or confirmation has already taken place.
One proposition, different roles
Both the first condition and the planning premise concern everyone being able to participate. Read the role of that content: a requirement being set or a basis assumed by the plan.
The garden match and the request before discussion are separate examples. Do not combine them into a story in which the same participants finish a match and then discuss it.
What roles does everyone being able to participate have in the 条件 and 前提 examples?
Show the answer and why
With 条件 it is the first requirement being set; with 前提 it is the basis of the plan. The content can overlap, but neither sentence reports completed participation.
