船 and 港: ships, ports, and movement direction
Separate a vehicle from the place it enters or leaves through particles.
A vessel in motion
船 (ふね) means ship or boat. 「船で島へ行きました」 says the speaker went to an island by boat.
「船に荷物を積みました」 means loading luggage onto the vessel. It does not establish that the speaker boarded too.
A port for vessels
港 (みなと) means port or harbor. 「港で船を待ちました」 describes waiting for a vessel at the port.
「港の近くに市場があります」 locates a market near the port, not inside the vessel.
Particles for departure and arrival
「船が港を出ました」 says the vessel left the port. を marks the place departed from.
「船が港に入りました」 says the vessel entered the port. With the same 港, を and に identify different movement directions.
Does 「船が港を出ました」 report arrival at the port?
Show the answer and why
No. It reports leaving the port, with を marking the departure location.
