駅 and 停留所: waiting at stations and stops
Distinguish facility names from meeting points in front of or near them.
A station
駅 (えき) means station. 「駅で待ち合わせます」 arranges a meeting at the station.
「駅の前で待ちます」 means waiting in front of the station. This differs from specifying a place inside.
A stop
停留所 (ていりゅうじょ) means a bus, tram, or similar stop. 「次の停留所で降ります」 says the speaker will get off at the next stop.
「停留所まで歩きました」 means walking as far as the stop. It does not give a distance traveled after boarding.
Checking the notice's reference point
「駅に近い停留所を探しています」 means looking for a stop near the station. Do not merge them into one facility.
「停留所は反対側です」 says the stop is on the opposite side. The reference side requires the local context.
Does 「駅の前で待ちます」 specify a place inside the station?
Show the answer and why
No. It explicitly places the waiting point in front of the station.
