Study notes

1. Origins, structure, and basic meaning

  • Structure: Add から after a clause to connect a reason to a following judgment or action.
  • Basic usage: 外は寒いから、上着を着てください。 gives the cold weather as the reason for asking someone to put on a jacket.

2. Common pitfalls and similar expressions

  • Nouns and adjectives
    • 休みだから and 静かだから retain , while 寒いから connects directly. A polite form can also precede it, as in 寒いですから.
  • How the reason is presented
    • から readily puts forward the speaker's reason or grounds, while ので tends to frame the reason as an explanation of circumstances. This does not make から inherently rude or emotional.
