to carry through · to do to the end

Indicates continuing an action despite difficulty and completing it all the way to the end.

Examples

困難があっても、最後まで自分の役割をやり抜いた。

Despite the difficulties, they carried out their role to the very end.

最後まで考え抜いて答えを出した。

I thought it through to the end and reached an answer.

Structure: ぬく after a verb's masu-stem expresses carrying the action through despite difficulty.
Basic usage: 困難があっても、最後まで自分の役割をやり抜いた。 says that the role was carried out to the end despite difficulties.

Inflecting the final verb
- The past of やり抜く is やり抜いた, and its te-form is やり抜いて. Keep やり unchanged and inflect the final 抜く.
