取り消す and 訂正: retracting content and correcting an error
Compare cancellation or retraction with correction. Distinguish withdrawing the content from fixing an incorrect part.
Cancel an earlier arrangement
取り消す, read とりけす, means cancel or retract. 予定が変わったので予約を取り消した。 says that someone canceled the reservation because the schedule changed.
It reports cancellation of the reservation itself. Do not replace that action with correction of a typo in the reservation form.
Correct an error
訂正, read ていせい, means correction. 資料の誤字を見つけ、その場で訂正した。 says that someone found a typo in the materials and corrected it on the spot.
Both finding and correcting the typo are completed actions. A corrected character does not establish withdrawal of the materials themselves.
Retraction and correction of a statement
前の発言を取り消すには明確な説明が必要だ。 says that a clear explanation is needed to retract the earlier statement. It states a condition for retraction.
Withdrawing a statement and correcting an error within it are different actions. Do not add refunds or other processing results absent from the cancellation or correction statement.
Does 訂正した。 for a typo in the materials mean the entire materials were withdrawn?
Show the answer and why
No. It reports correcting the typo. Withdrawal of the materials requires separate information.
