寺 and 神社: names and visits

Distinguish Buddhist temples from Shinto shrines and read visiting, approaching, and observing.

A Buddhist temple

says that an old temple stands on a mountain.

means walking in the temple garden. It does not state that the person entered a building.

A Shinto shrine

means taking a photograph in front of a shrine.

says that someone is heading toward a shrine. Do not turn this into arrival already completed.

Two separate visits

says that someone visited a temple in the morning and went to a shrine in the afternoon. Keep each place paired with its time.

says that someone visited both a temple and a shrine to look around. It does not identify any particular ritual they participated in.
