助け合う, 支援 and 援助: mutual help and support received

Compare neighbors helping one another, an award established to support writers and tuition assistance received. Track reciprocity and the direction of support without treating every scene as an equal exchange.

Neighbors and families helping one another

「近所の人たちは雪かきの際に助け合った。」 (Neighbors helped one another clear the snow.)

Another sentence values families helping one another in difficult times. 助け合う expresses mutual help, but an evaluation of its importance does not report that every act of help has been completed.

Supporting a family and establishing a support award

「地域の人々が被災した家族を支援した。」 (Local residents supported the family affected by the disaster.)

Another example describes an award established to support young writers. Support given to the disaster-affected family and the award's purpose are different facts; establishing the award does not mean every writer received it.

Providing food and receiving tuition assistance

「困っている家庭へ食料を援助した。」 (We provided food assistance to families in need.)

In the tuition example, the speaker receives 援助 and continues attending school. Distinguish providing food assistance from receiving assistance for tuition.

Does receiving tuition 援助 establish that the recipient returned the same help to the supporter?

Show the answer and why

No. It reports receiving assistance and continuing to attend school. 助け合う describes mutual help, but receiving support does not always report an equal exchange of help.
