助かる and 助ける: rescue and practical help

The rescued person and the rescuer
救助が間に合って、全員が助かりました。 says that rescue arrived in time and everyone survived. 助かる, read たすかる, makes those saved from danger the subject.
近くにいた人が子どもを助けました。 says that a nearby person rescued the child. 助ける, read たすける, marks the child helped with を.
Practical help in everyday life
荷物を持ってくれて助かりました。 thanks someone for helping by carrying luggage. 助かる here does not require that a life was saved.
早めに連絡してもらえると助かります。 says that early notice would help. It can serve as an indirect request but does not mean the other person has already contacted the speaker.
The force of asking for help
助けてください asks for help in difficulty and may sound urgent depending on context. Distinguish such a situation from simply asking someone to share a task.
一人では運べないので、手伝ってください。 asks for help carrying something too difficult to carry alone. 手伝う can specify assistance with a shared task.
Does 早めに連絡してもらえると助かります thank someone for a message already sent?
