Studying religions and expressing belief
Separate studying religion and respectful dialogue from belief reflected in a festival and the wish to respect different faiths.
Studying religion and respecting differences
means “I studied the world's religions at college.” について学んだ reports study about religions, not adoption of those religions as personal beliefs.
means “It is important to respect religious differences when engaging in dialogue.” This states the importance of respectful dialogue. It does not report that all differences have already been resolved.
Belief reflected and a wish to respect it
信仰(しんこう) means faith or belief. means “This festival reflects an ancient belief centered on the mountain.” The festival reflects an old belief concerning the mountain.
means “We would like to respect one another's different beliefs.” 人によって異なる identifies beliefs differing between people; 尊重したい expresses wanting to respect them. A wish does not establish that everyone has already done so.
Study and the expression of faith
Studying the world’s 宗教 and a festival reflecting 信仰 describe different relationships. A person’s subject of study does not by itself establish that person’s adopted faith.
対話することが大切だ concerns the importance of dialogue, while 尊重したい concerns a wish to respect. Follow the distinct scope of study, expression, importance, and desire.
Does 大学で世界の宗教について学んだ establish that the person adopted every religion studied?
Show the answer and why
No. It reports learning about religions. A festival’s expression of 信仰 and the wish to respect beliefs also do not establish adoption of a faith.
