A meal and eating or drinking

Compare a family meal and a meal delivered during a hospital stay with 飲食 as eating and drinking. Keep delivery, consumption, and the stated venue boundaries distinct.

Sharing or delivering a meal

— “Our whole family ate together for the first time in a while.” 家族全員で identifies all the family members as participants. 食事をした reports having a meal, without naming its menu.

— “During hospitalization, meals arrive in the hospital room at fixed times.” 食事 names the meal being delivered. 運ばれてくる describes its movement and timing; it does not report that the patient finished eating it.

飲食 and the stated location

— “No eating or drinking is allowed in the gallery.” 飲食 covers eating and drinking. The prohibition is explicitly inside the exhibition room, and the sentence supplies no rule for places outside it.

— “The venue has a lounge where guests may eat and drink freely.” 飲食できる expresses permission or possibility in the lounge. The existence of that lounge does not report that anyone has already eaten there.

The event matters as well as the noun

食事 can focus on a shared meal or a provided meal, while 飲食 names the range of eating and drinking activities. 食事が運ばれる and 食事をする therefore describe different events even though both use 食事.

Keep each location attached to its own predicate: the exhibition room has a prohibition, and the lounge permits eating and drinking. A general venue description does not merge those scopes or establish completed consumption.

Does 「入院中は決められた時間に食事が運ばれてくる」 also say the meal was finished?

Show the answer and why

No. 食事 names the meal being provided, and 運ばれてくる describes its delivery at set times. Eating it or finishing it is not stated.
