潮, 干潮 and 満潮: sea scent, tidal paths and a model

Compare 潮 in sea scent with 干潮 revealing a sandy path and 満潮 submerging a rocky path or shown by a blue panel. Distinguish scent, path conditions and representation.

潮 in a beach discovery and sea scent

潮 (しお) means tide or seawater. means “We found a small crab on the beach at low tide.” It reports finding a small crab on a beach where the tide had gone out.

means “The wind carried the scent of the sea through the window.” The scent entered through the window with the wind. 潮の香り does not report seawater entering or a measurement of tide times.

干潮 in a sandy path and a checked time

means “At low tide, a sandy path appears leading to the small offshore island.” The sentence describes the appearance of a sandy path at low tide.

means “The fisher checked the time of low tide before heading to the beach.” It gives the order of checking the time and heading to the beach. These examples do not supply a current path-use schedule or visiting instructions.

満潮 in a rocky path and a blue-panel model

means “At high tide, the rocky path is submerged in the sea.” This rocky path and the earlier sandy path are not identified as one route in a continuous event.

means “The model represents the water level at high tide with a blue panel.” The Japanese 表した reports a past representation with 青い板, while the English describes what the model represents in the present. Preserve the model and blue panel rather than reading them as a measured water level at the actual site.

Show the answer and why

The first names the source of the sea scent entering through a window; the second describes high-tide water represented by a blue panel in a model. They do not report seawater entering, tide-time measurement or a current measured water level at the site.
