進行 and 進歩: an activity in progress and improvement

Compare a meeting in progress with improved technology, keeping improvement separate from completion of the current work.

An activity’s progress or flow

進行, read しんこう, refers to an activity proceeding. says that the meeting is in progress.

says that the person is responsible for running the presentation. 進行 here concerns managing its sequence and flow.

Improvement in ability or technology

進歩, read しんぽ, means improvement or advancement. says that this technology advanced greatly.

says that pronunciation is improving little by little. It does not identify a position in a work procedure.

Improvement and completion are separate

says that the technology improved, but the work is not yet finished. The improved technology and unfinished task are separate subjects.

says that work is in progress. Check wording such as 終わりました or まだ終わっていません to determine completion.
