思考 and 思索: Thought processes and reflective subjects

Compare organizing a thought process with reflecting on life and arriving at a personal answer. Read the stated attitude, subject, and result without ranking all thinking by depth or assuming every answer is correct.

Calm thinking and an organized thought process

思考 means thought or thinking. The example emphasizes the need for calm thinking when hurried; it does not diagnose everyone in a hurry as losing the ability to think.

「図を使って自分の思考の流れを整理しました。」 (I used a diagram to organize the flow of my thoughts.) A diagram was used to organize the flow of thoughts. Organizing that flow does not report solving every problem.

Reflection on life and a personal answer

思索 includes contemplation or reflection. Thinking about life and arriving at a personal answer after deep contemplation present a subject and a process with its reported result.

「彼女は深い思索の末に自分なりの答えを出した。」 (After deep contemplation, she arrived at her own answer.) She reached her own answer after deep contemplation. A personal answer does not become an answer verified as correct for everyone.

Identify the subject, process, and reported result

「静かな森を歩きながら人生について思索した。」 (I reflected on life while walking through the quiet forest.) The reflection about life occurred while walking through a quiet forest. A forest or solitude is not made a compulsory setting for all reflection.

Organizing a thought process and reflecting on life have different stated focuses. Read the actual subject, process, and result without making all 思考 shallow or only 思索 deep.

What do organizing 思考の流れ with a diagram and reflecting about life with 思索 concern?

Show the answer and why

The first organizes the flow of one's thoughts; the second reflects on life as a subject. They do not establish fixed grades of depth, and a separate personal answer should not become a universally correct answer.
