料金, 値段, and 費用: charges, prices, and overall costs
Distinguish a service charge, an item's price, and the costs of an activity, checking what a claim of no charge covers.
Charges for using a service
駐車場の料金を確認しました。 says that someone checked the parking charge. 料金, read りょうきん, is used for money paid to use a facility or service.
一時間の利用料金は五百円です。 says that one hour of use costs five hundred yen. Read the duration with the amount; it is not the whole day's cost.
The price of an item
この靴の値段はいくらですか。 asks the price of these shoes. 値段, read ねだん, suits everyday questions about an item's price.
値段は高いですが、長く使えます。 says that the item is expensive but can be used for a long time. It compares price and useful life; do not mechanically replace price with a service charge.
The costs of an activity
旅行の費用には交通費と宿泊費を含めました。 says that transport and accommodation were included in the travel costs. 費用, read ひよう, broadly groups money needed for an activity.
参加料金は無料ですが、交通費は自分で払います。 says that participation is free, but travel expenses are paid by the participant. No participation charge does not mean no related costs.
