劣等感 and 劣る: feelings of inferiority and a limited comparison
Separate feelings expressed by 劣等感 from a comparison of durability or experience expressed by 劣る. Keep the named dimension and the possibility of compensation without making a judgment about overall human worth.
The feeling that arises in comparison
劣等感 (れっとうかん) is given as “inferiority complex” in the meanings. 「主人公は兄への劣等感を素直に打ち明けた。」 describes the protagonist candidly admitting that feeling toward their older brother. It identifies a comparison target and a feeling, rather than assessing every ability of the two people.
「他人と比べるたびに劣等感が強くなった。」 means “My feelings of inferiority grew stronger each time I compared myself with others.” The focus is a change in feelings during comparison. The word does not provide a clinical diagnosis or a judgment about the person's worth in this example.
Naming the dimension in which something falls behind
劣る (おとる) includes being inferior or lagging behind. 「この布は軽いが丈夫さでは前作に劣る。」 means “This fabric is light but less durable than the previous product.” Durability is the comparison axis, and lightness is also stated. The sentence does not make the fabric inferior in every respect.
「経験では劣っても発想の豊かさで補える。」 means “Even with less experience, rich ideas can make up for it.” The limitation concerns experience, and the possibility of compensation through ideas remains. The sentence does not report completed compensation or lower overall ability.
Keep the feeling separate from the comparison axis
For 劣等感, look at the feeling involved in comparison; for 劣る, look at what is compared and in which respect it falls behind. Feeling inferior does not establish that every ability is lower. A limited disadvantage likewise does not establish that someone feels inferior.
Retain a stated dimension such as durability or experience. When compensation is possible, distinguish that possibility from an accomplished result. The gloss “inferiority complex” does not turn these learning examples into evidence for a clinical condition.
Does having less experience while being able to compensate with rich ideas mean that the person's overall ability is lower?
Show the answer and why
No. The stated limitation is experience, and the possibility of compensating through ideas is retained. The sentence neither judges the person's overall ability or worth nor reports that the compensation has already been completed.
