音読 and 朗読: Purposes and settings for reading aloud
Compare checking pronunciation through reading aloud with reading a poem or story aloud. Read the reported practice result and the graduation or bedtime setting without turning them into rigid definitions.
Reading aloud while checking pronunciation
音読 includes oral reading or reading aloud. The textbook example states both the voiced reading activity and the pronunciation being checked.
「発音を確かめながら教科書の文章を音読した。」 (I read the textbook sentences aloud while checking my pronunciation.) Pronunciation was checked while the textbook sentences were read aloud. The sentence does not require solitary reading or an absence of expression.
Reading a poem or story aloud
朗読 refers to reading aloud or recitation. A self-written poem at a graduation ceremony and a bedtime story read by a father involve different texts and settings.
「寝る前に父が物語を朗読してくれた。」 (Before bed, my father read a story aloud to me.) The father read a story aloud for the listener before bed. This does not confine 朗読 to a stage or performance venue.
Read the purpose and setting of each example
A separate 音読 example reports that continued ten-minute morning practice steadied speaking pace. That is the result reported for that practice, rather than a guaranteed outcome for everyone who reads aloud.
The terms overlap in voiced reading. Compare checking pronunciation, continued practice, the poem or story, and the stated setting without using volume, audience presence, or mandatory emotional delivery to create an absolute boundary.
How do checking pronunciation through textbook 音読 and a father reading a bedtime story with 朗読 differ?
Show the answer and why
Both involve reading aloud. The first states a pronunciation-checking purpose, while the second describes a father reading a story for a listener before bed. These examples do not establish that 音読 must be solitary or 朗読 must take place on a stage.
