に限らず: extending eligibility beyond a particular group
Expand a scope that might seem limited to one group. Separate eligibility from usage requirements, and check why an extension does not remove every restriction.
The first group is still included
この講座は学生に限らず、社会人も参加できます。 means that working adults and others beyond students can take the course too. It does not exclude students in favor of accepting only nonstudents.
A noun identifying the scope precedes に限らず. 週末に限らず、平日も混んでいます。 extends the scope to weekdays as well as weekends, using days rather than groups of people.
An extended scope and separate requirements
会員に限らず利用できますが、予約が必要です。 says that nonmembers can use the service too, but a reservation is required. Membership eligibility and the booking procedure are independent conditions.
子どもに限らず、大人も楽しめます。 evaluates something as enjoyable for adults as well as children. It neither guarantees that every person will enjoy it nor supplies actual usage records for every age group.
Scope opposite to に限り
会員に限り利用できます。 allows use only by members. 会員に限らず利用できます。 extends access beyond members, so read through the ending to check for らず.
