雇用 and 従事: employment opportunities and work in a field

Compare local job creation and discussion of how to protect stable employment with engagement in health care or hazardous work. Read opportunities and activity in a field as different information.

Employment opportunities and stability

雇用 (こよう) means employment. 「会社は地域で新たな雇用を生み出した。」 reports the company creating new employment in the region. It identifies the creator of opportunities without specifying headcount or individual contract terms.

「安定した雇用を守る方法について話し合った。」 reports discussing ways to protect stable employment. The discussion is stated; successfully protecting the jobs is a separate result.

Engagement in health care and other work

従事 (じゅうじ) concerns working or engaging in a particular activity. 「母は長年、地域の医療に従事してきた。」 describes the mother working in community health care for many years. The field and the continuing period are in focus.

「危険な作業に従事する人には特別な訓練が必要だ。」 states that people engaged in dangerous work need special training. It expresses a need, without saying that those people have already completed the training.

Creating opportunities and performing an activity

The 雇用 examples focus on local job opportunities and employment stability; the 従事 examples focus on people engaged in health care or other work. Separate the company creating opportunities from the people performing an activity.

Knowing someone's field of activity does not establish an unstated employment contract. The words can describe related aspects of work, while employment relationships and engagement in a field remain different information.

What differs between the company creating local 雇用 and the mother engaged in community health care through 従事?

Show the answer and why

The company creates employment opportunities; the mother performs work in a field over time. Distinguish the provision of jobs from engagement in the particular activity.
