Graduation, exercise, and game venues

Compare auditorium, gymnasium, and ballpark names through a planned graduation ceremony, chairs arranged for it, rainy-day exercise, and a crowded game-day stadium.

Names for three facilities

講堂 (こうどう) means an auditorium or lecture hall, 体育館 (たいいくかん) a gymnasium, and 球場 (きゅうじょう) a ballpark or stadium. Connect each name to the graduation, exercise, or game context in its sentence. A single example does not establish the only activity allowed in that facility.

means “The graduation ceremony will be held in the auditorium next door rather than in the school building.” 校舎ではなく contrasts the locations, and 講堂 names the ceremony venue. The ceremony is to be held there; the sentence does not describe a ceremony that has already ended.

Preparing the gymnasium and speaking in the auditorium

means “On rainy days, we exercise in the gymnasium.” , we arranged chairs in the gymnasium to prepare for the graduation ceremony. The same facility appears in exercise and ceremony preparation, and the completed preparation does not mean the ceremony itself was completed.

means “I spoke slowly so my voice would reach the back of the auditorium.” 講堂の後ろ identifies how far the speaker wanted the voice to reach, while ゆっくり describes the speaking. This purpose does not establish that everyone at the back actually heard it.

The ballpark on game day

describes a stadium crowded from the morning on game day. describes a past walk from the station to the ballpark that took fifteen minutes. That time belongs to this example, rather than every station-to-ballpark journey.

Graduation connects 講堂 to the stated ceremony venue and 体育館 to the place prepared for it. 球場 appears as a crowded game venue and a walking destination. Reading the facility name alongside the activity preserves these differences while allowing the gymnasium to have a ceremony-related use.

Does 体育館 mean a place used only for exercise in the graduation-preparation example?

Show the answer and why

No. 体育館 means a gymnasium, but this example uses it for arranging chairs in preparation for graduation. 講堂 names the auditorium where the ceremony will be held, and 球場 the stadium crowded on game day. Preparing the gymnasium does not establish that the ceremony has ended.
