季節 and 天候: seasons and weather conditions

Distinguish a period of the year from weather during a particular time.

A season as a period

季節 (きせつ) means season. 「季節が変わりました」 says the season changed.

「季節の野菜を使います」 means using seasonal vegetables. Without a specified season, the exact vegetable types are not established.

Weather at the time

天候 (てんこう) means weather conditions. 「天候が悪くなりました」 says the weather worsened.

「天候によって予定を変えます」 says plans will change depending on the weather. It does not report that a change already occurred.

Category and condition

「同じ季節でも天候は違います」 says weather can differ even in the same season. A season's name does not establish a particular day's weather.

「天候が回復するまで待ちます」 means waiting until the weather improves, not until the calendar season changes.

Does 「同じ季節」 guarantee the same 天候 on a given day?

Show the answer and why

No. A season is a time category, while actual weather can differ by date and place.
