A Time Error Revealed and a Fact Established by Records

Compare verification by another method and an error revealed in footage with proof of a triangle property or presence at a stated time. Distinguish the checking activity from the specific fact the evidence establishes.

Another method and an error revealed

— “We verified the experimental results using another method.” Experimental results were checked using another method. The stated verification does not provide a universal guarantee about every result or method.

— “Reviewing the footage revealed an error in the recorded time.” Reviewing the footage revealed an error in the recorded time. Preserve that explicit finding: verification need not mean that the original record was entirely correct.

A property and presence at a particular time

— “In math class, we proved a property of triangles.” The property of a triangle is what was proved in math class. This does not report answers to every mathematical problem or the issuance of a document.

— “His records prove that he was there at the time.” His records establish that he was there at that time. The stated fact is his presence, without identifying attendance at a particular class or event, a motive, or a verdict.

Separate the checking result from the proposition proved

The footage example with 検証 reports a time error revealed by checking. The records example with 証明 identifies the fact for which the records serve as proof. Read the checking action in the first example and the fact proved in the second separately.

The math class and the record of presence occur in different examples. They do not place the person from the records in that class, and verification alone does not make an original account universally true.

What do the time error revealed by 検証 of footage and the records serving as 証明 of presence each show?

Show the answer and why

The first gives the error found through checking; the second gives the fact established by the records: he was there at the time. Do not add attendance at a specific class or event or a verdict, or turn verification into a guarantee that the entire original record was correct.
