蛍光灯 and 街灯: fluorescent lights and streetlights

Connect 蛍光灯 with a flickering or switched-off fluorescent light and 街灯 with bridge streetlights or a replaced bulb. Separate the names from the particular locations and operating conditions in the examples.

蛍光灯 names a fluorescent light

蛍光灯, read けいこうとう, means fluorescent light. 「古い蛍光灯が時々ちらついている。」 says the old fluorescent light sometimes flickers. 時々 describes how often it flickers.

「部屋の蛍光灯を消して外へ出た。」 says the fluorescent light in the room was turned off before going outside. 蛍光灯 names the fixture switched off, and 部屋の locates it in this example.

街灯 names a streetlight

街灯, read がいとう, means streetlight. 「暗くなると橋の街灯が自動で点灯する。」 says the bridge's streetlights come on automatically after dark. 自動で describes how these particular lights come on.

「切れた街灯の電球を作業員が交換した。」 says a worker replaced a burned-out streetlight bulb. 街灯 names the streetlight, and 街灯の電球 names its bulb. The sentence does not describe replacing the entire streetlight.

Separate the name from a particular property

The fluorescent-light example describes switching off a light in a room. The streetlight example describes automatic lighting on a bridge. These facts do not define the names as opposite indoor and outdoor, or manual and automatic, categories.

First connect 蛍光灯 with fluorescent light and 街灯 with streetlight, then read their modifiers and actions. The name 街灯 alone does not establish that all streetlights use the same light source or come on in the same way.

What do 蛍光灯 and 街灯 name, and do the room, bridge, switching off, and automatic lighting define exclusive categories?

Show the answer and why

蛍光灯 names a fluorescent light, and 街灯 names a streetlight. The room and bridge are locations in the examples; switching off and automatic lighting are actions or properties described for those fixtures. They do not establish exclusive definitions for every fluorescent light or streetlight.
