観覧, 鑑賞 and 鑑定: viewing conditions and an appraisal result

Read 観覧 in storage before viewing and a reservation condition, 鑑賞 in film viewing and a quiet-viewing request, and 鑑定 in expert appraisal of a jar or painting.

観覧 in prior storage and a reservation condition

観覧 (かんらん) means viewing or attendance. means “I left my belongings in storage before viewing the exhibition.” Leaving the belongings in storage came before viewing the exhibition.

means “Advance reservations are required to attend the performance.” The advance-reservation condition belongs to the performance in this sentence, rather than establishing a condition for every viewing event.

鑑賞 in a watched film and a request

means “I watched an old movie with my family on my day off.” The old film is the object watched with family on a day off.

means “Please view the works quietly in this room.” この部屋では identifies the room and 静かに the requested manner of viewing. This is a request for quiet viewing there, not a report that viewing has already ended.

鑑定 in an expert appraisal and a later copy

鑑定 (かんてい) means appraisal or authentication. means “I had an expert appraise the jar I inherited from my grandfather.” An expert appraised the inherited jar. No particular conclusion about that jar is supplied in the sentence.

means “The appraisal showed that the painting was a later copy.” The result identifies the painting as a later copy. It supplies that finding, without supplying a price or a criminal judgment.

What result was established in

Show the answer and why

The painting was identified as a later copy. Expert appraisal has a different purpose from simply viewing or appreciating a work, and this result does not include a price or a criminal judgment.
