角 and 交差点: a corner and a road intersection
Read turning at a corner and passing an intersection, without treating every turn as a crossing of intersecting roads.
A corner where direction changes
角, read かど, means a corner of an object or route. 次の角を右に曲がってください。 asks someone to turn right at the next corner.
建物の角に案内板があります。 locates an information board at a corner of the building. Here 角 is not the horn sense read つの.
Where roads meet
交差点, read こうさてん, is a road intersection. 二つ目の交差点を過ぎると、郵便局があります。 says that a post office is found after passing the second intersection.
交差点の手前に店があります。 places a shop before the intersection along the approach. It does not place the shop in the middle of the intersection.
A corner’s location and whether roads intersect
角を曲がる describes changing direction at a corner. A corner can be formed by a bend, so the expression does not always establish that another road meets it.
交差点を渡る describes crossing an intersection. Keep the turning action in 曲がる separate from the crossing action in 渡る.
Does 次の角を右に曲がる necessarily describe crossing a road intersection?
Show the answer and why
No. It describes turning right at the next corner. Whether roads intersect there and whether the person crosses them require additional information.
