医師, 医者, and 看護師: Doctors, an Ambition, a Drama, and a Nurse
Compare consultation and a new clinic physician with a wish to become a doctor, a drama's doctor, and a nurse's temperature measurement or hospital work. Preserve each setting and stated action.
A consulted doctor and a new clinic physician
医師 (いし) means doctor or physician. 「症状が続くので医師に相談した。」 — “I consulted a doctor because the symptoms continued.” Consultation followed continued symptoms, without supplying a diagnosis or treatment outcome.
「地域の診療所に新しい医師が着任した。」 — “A new physician joined the local clinic.” A new physician joined the local clinic. 医師 and 医者 overlap as doctor terms; these examples do not divide them by credentials, rank, or diagnostic scope.
An ambition and a doctor in a drama
医者 (いしゃ) also means doctor. 「妹は将来、子どもを支える医者になりたいそうです。」 — “My younger sister wants to become a doctor who helps children.” The English quotation states the wish, while Japanese なりたいそうです and the Korean quotation report it. A future wish to help children as a doctor does not identify a current occupation.
「ドラマの主人公は小さな村で働く医者だ。」 — “The protagonist of the drama is a doctor working in a small village.” The doctor is the drama's protagonist working in a small village. Preserve that fictional setting without turning the role into a statement about a specific real physician.
A nurse's measurement and hospital work
看護師 (かんごし) means nurse. 「看護師が患者の体温を測った。」 — “The nurse took the patient's temperature.” The reported action is taking the patient's temperature, without a diagnosis or successful treatment result.
「姉は病院で看護師として働いている。」 — “My older sister works as a nurse at a hospital.” This sentence states hospital work as a nurse. The younger sister's ambition, the fictional doctor, the temperature measurement, and hospital employment are separate example contexts.
What do the younger sister wishing to become an 医者 and the 看護師 taking a temperature each tell us?
Show the answer and why
The first gives an ambition; the second reports a nurse's temperature measurement. Do not turn the wish into a current job or measurement into a diagnosis or treatment outcome. The drama's doctor likewise belongs to a separate fictional context.
