派遣 and 出張: dispatching people and travelling for work
Read the company sending an engineer alongside preparations to dispatch a team, a planned business trip, and a return. Distinguish the sending organization from the person travelling for work.
The organization dispatching someone
派遣 (はけん) means dispatch. 「会社は技術者を新しい工場へ派遣した。」 means “The company dispatched an engineer to the new factory.” The company is the sender, the engineer is the person sent, and the new factory is the destination.
「調査団の派遣に必要な準備が始まった。」 means “Preparations began for dispatching the research team.” What begins is preparation for dispatching the team. Starting preparations is a different state from having already sent the team.
The person making a business trip
出張 (しゅっちょう) means business trip. 「父は来週、隣町へ出張します。」 means “My father is going on a business trip to a neighboring town next week.” The father is the person travelling, and next week supplies the future timing. The focus is the traveller’s work-related movement.
「出張から戻った姉に駅で会った。」 means “I met my older sister at the station when she returned from her business trip.” The sister returned from a business trip, and the speaker met her at the station. A return and next week’s planned travel express different stages of movement.
Compare the sending and travelling perspectives
派遣 looks at an organization sending a person, while 出張 looks at a person’s travel for work. The perspectives can concern the same work-related movement; the words do not require separate trips.
The engineer example distinguishes the company from the person sent. The father’s sentence directly identifies the traveller. Preparations, future travel, and return supply different states, so retain each actor’s role together with the stated timing.
Who is the sending party when a company dispatches an engineer to a new factory, and who is the traveller in the father’s business trip next week?
Show the answer and why
The company sends the engineer in the 派遣 sentence. The father is the person who will travel for work in the 出張 sentence. Distinguish the sending and travelling perspectives while retaining the next-week plan.
