服 and 着物: clothing in general and kimono
Distinguish the broad word for clothes from a specific form of dress.
Clothing in general
服 (ふく) means clothes. 「旅行に着ていく服を選びます」 means choosing clothes to wear on a trip.
「服を着替えました」 says the speaker changed clothes. It does not imply buying new ones.
Kimono as a form of dress
In modern everyday contexts, 着物 (きもの) usually refers to kimono. 「式で着物を着ました」 says the speaker wore kimono at a ceremony.
「着物を借りました」 means borrowing kimono. Borrowing alone does not establish that it has already been worn.
Choice versus actual wearing
「着物ではなく、別の服を着ます」 chooses other clothes rather than kimono. It does not classify kimono as outside the clothing category.
「この服は式のために買いました」 gives a ceremony as the reason for buying these clothes. Purpose and actual wearing time are separate.
Does 「着物を借りました」 establish that it was already worn at the ceremony?
Show the answer and why
No. It reports borrowing, not whether it was actually worn.
