演技 and 演出: portraying a character and creating an atmosphere

Compare 演技 in an elderly character portrayal and the audience's response to a child actor's performance with 演出 in lowered lighting and a director's responsibility. Distinguish expression, response and direction.

演技 in a portrayed character and audience response

演技 (えんぎ) means acting or performance. means “She gave a performance on stage in which she fully embodied an elderly person.” The elderly person is the character portrayed on stage. That portrayal does not state the actor's actual age.

means “The audience was drawn in by the child actor's natural performance.” The child actor gave the natural performance and the audience was drawn in by it. Acting and the audience's response have different participants.

演出 in lighting and production responsibility

means “We lowered the lights to create a calm atmosphere.” Lowering the lights created a calm atmosphere in this example. It is a particular directing action rather than a required method for every production.

means “A young director is responsible for this stage production.” The young director is responsible for this stage production. Responsibility for directing does not report that the director also performs every role.

The character expressed and the atmosphere created

The elderly character is what the actor expresses, while the calm atmosphere is what lowering the lights creates. These objects distinguish the examples of 演技 and 演出.

The audience was drawn in by the child actor's performance; the director is responsible for the stage production. Keep the audience's response, the actor's expression and the director's work attached to their respective participants.

What was created by lowering the lights in

Show the answer and why

A calm atmosphere was created. That object differs from the character expressed in the acting example, and being responsible for direction does not establish that the director appeared in every role.
