読書 and 朗読: reading books and reading aloud

Distinguish reading activity from presenting text through the voice.

Reading books

読書 (どくしょ) means reading books. 「寝る前に読書をします」 describes reading before bed.

「読書の時間を取りました」 says time was set aside for reading. It does not count books read.

Presenting text through the voice

朗読 (ろうどく) means reading aloud. 「子供たちに物語を朗読しました」 means reading a story aloud to children.

「朗読を録音しました」 means recording a reading. The recorder is not necessarily the person who read aloud.

The activity and the listener

「朗読を聞きました」 reports listening to a reading. It does not identify the reader; the speaker could have listened to a recording of their own reading.

「声に出さずに読書をしました」 means reading silently. 読書 alone does not necessarily include a spoken presentation.

Did the speaker personally read aloud in 「朗読を聞きました」?

Show the answer and why

That is not established. The sentence only reports listening to a reading and does not identify who read aloud.
