独自 and 固有: an individual method and a distinctive property
Compare a shop's own roasting method and a tool developed independently with a regional expression and proper plant names. Read 独自 and 固有 through methods, development, characteristics, and names.
A shop's own method and independent development
独自 (どくじ) can describe an individual method or independent work. 「この店は独自の方法で豆を焙煎している。」 means “This shop roasts its beans using its own method.” The focus is the method this shop uses for roasting.
「職人が独自に開発した道具は細かな作業に向いている。」 means “The tool independently developed by the craftsperson is suited to detailed work.” 独自に describes development, and the tool is described as suitable for detailed tasks. The expression alone does not establish a world first or the absence of all help.
A regional expression and each plant's proper name
固有 (こゆう) occurs with properties or names particular to a subject. 「この地域には固有の言い回しが残っている。」 means “A unique expression survives in this region.” Read the region's distinctive expression and the fact that it remains.
「植物ごとの固有名を一覧にまとめた。」 means “I compiled a list of the proper names unique to each plant.” The names were the content organized into a list. The sentence does not supply plant names or a plant count for the reader to add.
Independence of method and a property tied to a subject
The shop sentence describes a roasting method, and the craftsperson sentence describes how a tool was developed. The regional sentence describes an expression, while the plant sentence concerns names for particular subjects. Identify whose method or which subject's distinctive property is being discussed.
Independence in the expression does not reveal every detail about help from others. A regional expression that survives is also not a rule forbidding its use elsewhere. Read the individual method and the subject-specific property within the stated examples.
What do a shop's 独自の方法 and a region's 固有の言い回し describe?
Show the answer and why
The first describes the shop's own method; the second describes an expression distinctive to the region. The words alone do not establish a world first, work done without any help, or a ban on use elsewhere.
