抽選 and 採決: choosing by lottery and taking a vote

Compare lottery selection and the possibility of a front-row choice with moving to a vote or scheduling one for a revised proposal. Identify the method without inventing odds or voting requirements.

Selection and choice through a lottery

抽選 (ちゅうせん) means lottery or drawing. 「応募者が多いため、参加者は抽選で決まる。」 means “Because there are many applicants, participants will be selected by lottery.” Many applicants supply the stated condition, and the lottery is the method for choosing participants.

「抽選に当たり、前列の席を選べた。」 means “I won the drawing and was able to choose a front-row seat.” Winning is followed by the ability to choose a front-row seat. The stated scope is that opportunity, rather than a report of completed seating.

Moving from discussion to a vote

採決 (さいけつ) means vote or taking a vote. 「議長は議論を終えて採決に移った。」 means “The chairperson ended the discussion and moved to a vote.” The chair ended discussion and moved to voting. The sentence does not report passage of a particular proposal.

「修正案は明日の会議で採決される。」 means “The revised proposal will be put to a vote at tomorrow's meeting.” The revised proposal is the subject of the future vote, and tomorrow’s meeting supplies the timing. A scheduled vote is different from voting having finished or the proposal having passed.

Connect the method with what is selected

抽選 connects participant or seat choice with a lottery. 採決 connects an item such as a revised proposal with taking a vote. The participant and proposal sentences differ in the method as well as the object of selection.

Many applicants and tomorrow’s meeting are conditions or timing explicitly supplied by the examples. They do not provide lottery odds or voting requirements. Reading the method is separate from determining unmentioned numbers or outcomes.

How do choosing participants by 抽選 and putting a revised proposal to 採決 tomorrow differ in their selection or decision method?

Show the answer and why

The first selects participants by lottery. The second puts a revised proposal to a vote. Distinguish lottery selection from voting, retaining tomorrow’s timing rather than treating the proposal as already passed.
