分布 and 偏る: distribution and concentration in one area

Compare plant distribution shown with colors on a map with young people concentrated in urban areas, distinguishing locations from a one-sided pattern.

Read where things are found in 分布

分布 (ぶんぷ) identifies where things are distributed. Describing a distribution does not by itself say that things are spread equally everywhere.

“地図に植物の分布を色分けして示した。” describes using colors to show the distribution of plants on a map. 植物の分布 is the information shown, while the map and colors are the means of showing it.

Identify the area of concentration in 偏る

偏る (かたよる) describes a pattern concentrated toward a particular side or area. Here, identify the area in which the population is concentrated.

“若い人口が都市部に偏っている。” says that the young population is concentrated in urban areas. Keep young people as the group described and urban areas as where they are concentrated; do not expand the statement to all ages.

Distribution and concentration can describe the same pattern

A distribution can itself be concentrated toward one area. The difference is the focus on where things are found in 分布 and on the one-sided pattern in 偏る.

The plant sentence does not establish an even distribution, and the population sentence does not identify someone intentionally arranging it. Read the stated locations and patterns without adding numerical proportions or causes.

Does showing 分布 on a map mean an even distribution, and does 偏る mean a deliberate arrangement?

Show the answer and why

Neither is established here. The sentences describe showing plant distribution with colors and the young population being concentrated in urban areas. They do not state evenness or an intention behind the concentration.
