〜にひきかえ

兄が社交的なのにひきかえ、弟は人前でほとんど話さない。

In contrast to his sociable older brother, the younger brother hardly speaks in front of others.

都会のにぎわかさにひきかえ、故郷は静かだ。

In contrast to the bustle of the city, my hometown is quiet.

活発な姉にひきかえ、妹はとてもおとなしい。

In contrast to her lively older sister, the younger sister is very quiet.

Structure: Attach にひきかえ to a noun or a clause nominalized with の to highlight a sharp contrast between two subjects' qualities or conditions.
Basic usage: 活発な姉にひきかえ、妹はとてもおとなしい。 contrasts a lively older sister with a very quiet younger sister.

Following a na-adjective clause
- 兄が社交的なのにひきかえ adds the nominalizer の to 社交的な before continuing with にひきかえ. Do not split it at なのに and interpret that part as a concessive connective.
