toward; regarding

Follows an expression of direction and allows the resulting relationship toward a target to modify the next noun.

Examples

地域への支援が全国に広がった。

Support for the region spread across the country.

新しい制度への意見を集めた。

We gathered opinions about the new system.

海外への関心が高まっている。

Interest in things overseas is growing.

Structure: Add の to the directional or target-marking particle へ to modify the following noun. The particle へ is read え.
Basic usage: In 新しい制度への意見を集めた。, the new system is the subject toward which the opinions are directed.

Connecting to verbs and nouns
- In 海外へ行く, へ connects to a verb; in 海外への旅行, the added の creates a noun modifier. Do not connect directly to the noun as 海外へ旅行.
The direction of the relationship
- 地域への支援 is support directed toward a region, while 地域からの支援 is support coming from the region. へ and から reverse the direction of the relationship.
