〜ところへ

Indicates that a new person or event enters at the very moment another situation is in progress.

Examples

帰ろうとしていたところへ、友人が訪ねてきた。

Just as I was about to leave, a friend came to visit.

食事をしているところへ、急な電話がかかってきた。

While I was eating, an urgent call came in.

Structure: ところへ follows a clause describing a situation and links it to the arrival of a new person or event at that moment.
Basic usage: 食事をしているところへ、急な電話がかかってきた。 depicts an urgent call arriving right while a meal was in progress.

Being about to act versus already acting
- 帰ろうとしていたところへ marks the moment of being about to leave; 食事をしているところへ marks a meal in progress. The verb form before ところへ determines the stage of the action.
An event entering a moment
- As the incoming-call example shows, へ is not limited to physical movement to a place. Here it links a new event entering an ongoing situation.
