Structure: にわたって follows a noun for a duration, region, or field and emphasizes the extent across which something takes place.

Modifying a noun
- 三日間にわたって会議を開く modifies the holding of a conference, whereas 三日間にわたる会議 modifies the noun for the conference. Distinguish にわたって from にわたる according to what follows.
