〜の方へ
Follows a noun to indicate movement in the general direction of that thing rather than to an exact point.

- Structure: Add
の方へafter a noun. Directional方is readほう, and the particleへis readえ. - Basic usage: It describes movement toward the side where a place lies rather than focusing on that exact point.
海の方へ歩くmeans walking in the direction of the sea.
2. Common pitfalls and similar expressions
- How specific the destination is
出口へ進むpresents the exit as the destination, while出口の方へ進むpresents the direction in which the exit lies. The latter alone does not establish that someone reached the exit.
- Direction and comparison with 方
右の方へindicates a rightward direction, while右の方が近いidentifies one side of a comparison. The following particle and predicate distinguish direction from comparison.
