〜て以来

ever since

Marks a specific past event as the point from which a state has continued to the present.

Examples

日本に来て以来、毎日日本語で日記を書いている。

Ever since coming to Japan, I have written in my diary in Japanese every day.

彼と知り合って以来、毎年手紙を交換している。

Ever since I met him, we have exchanged letters every year.

転職して以来、電車で通勤している。

Ever since changing jobs, I have commuted by train.

Structure: Add 以来（いらい） to a verb's て form to mark a past event from which a state or habit has continued.
Basic usage: 転職して以来、電車で通勤している。 makes the job change the starting point of continued train commuting.

Sequence and continuity
- 引っ越してから住所を知らせた can describe a single action after moving. 引っ越して以来ここで暮らしている focuses on the living situation continuing since the move.
A recurring habit
- 知り合って以来、毎年手紙を交換している describes the continuation of an annual habit.
